Jorge L. Quinones Reading Eagle

MAYA Kulenovic

This artist was born in Sarajevo (Bosnia-Herzegovina) in 1975, and settled in Toronto (Canada) leaves no one indifferent. His paintings, summarized in 4 collections: Faces, Builds, Land and Stills; play with light and darkness, so, stirs the emotions of the person who looks at it, there are portraits which show distress or even dare I say, innocence, but there are others who cry out to the four winds, hatred and anger. In what all agree is that they are really worrying, showing that to be macabre or grotesque no need to show blood. (Only appears in the collection "Stills"). Faces: children are portraits with a few glances from the afterlife, and that to me, especially me back to the film "Reflections," in which those souls trapped in the haunted mirror reverse of the existence of Kieffer Sutherland, too, I imagine, decorating a room in the Gothic style, serious, dark, yet elegant at the same time, as in Mandalay .... where Mrs. Danvers walk ...... Builds: are portraits of ordinary buildings, but to be equipped with this game of light, could well be the new home of Damian. Land: Dedicated to landscapes, in which abundant, if not all, water. Here I evoke the Dead Swamp in which Frodo and Gollum Sam travels to reach Mordor. Stills: Dedicated to the animals, the only collection bloody. (See website) Maya, who has exhibited at least 12 solo exhibitions and over 30 group, in places as diverse as Toronto, Montreal, London and Istanbul. Least in the second city, in the other studied art. Judge for yourself, and tell me that they wake up ......
